Warrenpoint Welcomes Cruise Ships for a Summer of Seafaring Delights

Warrenpoint Harbour Authority has revealed its exciting cruise schedule for 2023, bringing four magnificent ships to the charming seaside town. Kicking off the summer cruise season is the iconic Waverley, the oldest paddle steamer, offering a sunset cruise experience exclusively for 600 lucky locals on May 30th. Tickets for this unique event sold out within 24 hours, setting a new record for Waverley.

Following the Waverley’s visit, Le Champlain arrives on June 3rd, embarking on an 8-day cruise called “Celtic Secrets and Landscapes.” This will mark the maiden call for both Le Champlain and the World Traveller, which is set to dock on June 6th. The Azamara Pursuit, making its second visit, will arrive on June 15th, bringing up to 800 passengers on its ‘Intensive Ireland’ tour.

David Holmes, CEO of Warrenpoint Harbour, expressed delight at the cruise calls, especially highlighting the Waverley’s sunset cruise and the overwhelming response from the community. He also emphasized the warm welcome prepared for the newcomers and the return of Azamara Pursuit, inspired by their positive experience during their last visit.

Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Cllr Michael Savage, expressed enthusiasm for the cruise ships’ arrival, positioning Warrenpoint as a premier destination for maritime enthusiasts. He highlighted the economic boost these visits bring and emphasized the chance for guests to immerse themselves in the region’s history, heritage, and cultural traditions.

These cruise calls are made possible by Armagh Logistics, Hamilton Shipping, and GAC Services. Stay updated on the arrival and departure times of the ships by following Warrenpoint Port on social media, or the Events page on Warrenpoint.ie.
