Warrenpoint’s Banking Hub Opens Its Doors on Church Street

The new banking hub at 7 Church Street, Warrenpoint

Back in the summer we told you a Banking Hub was on its way to the old post office site at 7 Church Street. Well, the doors are now open.

The Hub officially opened on Tuesday 8th October, and it’s a simple enough idea done well: a Post Office-run counter where customers of all the major banks can lodge cash, withdraw, and handle everyday transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

There’s also a Community Banker service — each bank sends its own person in on a set day of the week, so if you’ve something more complicated than a lodgement, you can sit down with your own bank without a run to Newry.

With the last of the town’s bank branches long gone, this puts proper banking back on the main street — a big deal for older residents, and for the shops and traders lodging takings. Fair play to everyone who pushed to make it happen.
