Loughside Festival Returns to Warrenpoint: A Comprehensive Guide to This Year’s Exciting Events
The Loughside Festival is back in Warrenpoint, and it promises to be a spectacular celebration filled with activities for everyone! This year’s festival, running from 9th to 15th August, offers a mix of cultural events, family fun, live music, and sports, culminating in the much-anticipated fireworks display on 15th August, traditionally the busiest day in the town.

Festival Kick-Off: Friday, 9th August
The festivities begin with a taste of adventure on Friday. From 11 am to 4 pm, visitors can try their hand at traditional boat rowing during the Currach Club’s open sessions on Warrenpoint Beach. In the evening, the Town Park transforms into an outdoor cinema, providing a perfect setting for families to enjoy a film under the stars from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Saturday, 10th August: A Day Packed with Activities
Saturday is set to be a highlight of the festival, starting with the Annual International Currach Championships from 11 am to 3:30 pm at Warrenpoint Beach, featuring teams from across Ireland and even the USA. Pet lovers can look forward to the Dog Show in The Square, while sports enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Irish Cup 1st Round match between Warrenpoint Town FC and Windmill Stars at Milltown.
Families will enjoy the Artisan Market and the Teddy Bears Picnic in the Town Park, with plenty of fun for the kids including face painting, balloon modelling, and a kids’ disco. The day concludes with a side-splitting Comedy Night at the Town Hall, starting at 6:30 pm.
Sunday, 11th August: A Day of Tradition and Music
Sunday starts with the Peace Stone Ultra 12 Hour Charity Run and continues with the finals of the Currach Championships. The festival parade in the afternoon, followed by performances from St. Peter’s Brass Band and Warrenpoint Silver Band, sets the tone for a community-filled day. The evening wraps up with live music by Pogue Ma Cahone in the Town Park.
Midweek Entertainment: Monday 12th – Wednesday 14th August
The festival keeps the energy high during the week with a Traditional Music Session on Monday evening at the First & Last. Tuesday brings a delightful Afternoon Tea and Kids Factor in the Town Park, while Wednesday offers a Quiz Night hosted by the Warrenpoint Women’s Group and a lively tribute show featuring Garth Brooks and Shania Twain hits.
Grand Finale: Thursday, 15th August
The festival reaches its peak on Thursday, 15th August, starting with Fayre Day in The Square from 11 am. The day is packed with live music, traditional dancing, and the thrilling Sheaf Throwing Competition. As the evening draws in, DJ Red Marty and a line-up of country music acts, including Hugo Duncan and Gavin Gribben, will entertain the crowd.
Finally, at 10 pm, all eyes will turn to The Pier for the spectacular Fireworks Display, lighting up the night sky over Carlingford Lough and marking the perfect end to the Loughside Festival.
