Wake the Giant Festival 2020 Cancelled

Warrenpoint’s Wake the Giant Festival has been cancelled for 2020 due to ongoing guidelines relating to the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement on Monday, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council said, “it is with regret that the Council has had to take the decision to cancel this year’s Wake the Giant Festival in Warrenpoint and the Footsteps in the Forest Event in Slieve Gullion.”

“It is recognised that these events have entertained and engaged thousands of visitors and local residents since their inception in 2016, and have become much-anticipated each year. The decision not to host the events this year was made with public health and safety in mind. Forthcoming tourism events will be reviewed in line with the latest Government advice and guidance.”

It is hoped Wake the Giant will return in 2021. Until then Finn is set to enjoy a prolonged hibernation.
